Background Context

WeatherWear is a mobile app prototype that offers real-time weather updates alongside simple, intuitive clothing suggestions. I designed it end-to-end as a solo project for my UX course.

The Problem

Most weather apps stop at temperature and forecasts. But for many people, the real question is: what should I wear today?

Understanding the User

I conducted a Google survey with 50 people in my network to learn more about their weather-checking habits. Of those people, 76% said they check the weather primarily to decide what to wear.

Wireframes

Wireframes I started with rough digital wireframes to explore layout and user flow, then moved into mid-fi wireframes to test different UI structures.

Initial ideations

Icon System

My wireframes felt too text heavy. I decided the icon system was going to be the main focus of the app.

I did some preliminary explores for icons on paper.

A key challenge was deciding how to use color. Should it reflect temperature? Clothing type? Weather conditions?

I ultimately chose weather type with the intention of making it easier for users to quickly gain visual literacy.

Sun related items = bright yellow
Rain related items = cool blue, and so on.

I played around with multiple iterations of my Icons.

Because they are illustrative I decided to add a container for them to give a stronger sense of geometry.

I also introducred a simple widget that can give you the same info at a glance.

I did some preliminary explores for icons on paper.

A week in Winter

A week in Spring

A week in Summer

A week in Autumn

Including the moon phases and Mercury retrograde adds a small but meaningful ritual to the app. It turns a quick weather check into something a little more thoughtful.

Users start their day by dressing for the weather, then might notice the moon in the evening. This bridges the experience between the app and day to day interaction with the world.

The final prototype includes: A clear home screen with weather icons Outfit suggestions based on real-time conditions A color-coded visual system tied to weather types, enhancing glanceability
